What is Project Life?
If you follow me on instagram (@clarzzique), you would’ve made guesses on what it might be about… and that I’ve made numerous trips to Spotlight because of it. (blame the sales!). To me, Project Life is a sweet bonding of Photo Album x Scrapbooking! I remember back in my highschool days, I had a slight interest in the world of scrapbooking, but was put off by the idea of not being creative enough. So that interest took a back seat until now. I first found out about Project Life on a photographer’s blog but did not spend too much time looking into what it really is about as I thought it’s one of those exclusively American products that we can’t easily get in Australia. I was proven wrong when I stumbled across a shelf full of Project Life at a Spotlight store while shopping for party supplies. I was still a little clueless at that stage so didn’t splurge on it on the spot until I went home and had a good read about what it’s about and how I can get myself into it! The discounts that Spotlight occasionally has (20-40% off!) made this new hobby a little more affordable (i think).
It has been a whileee since I had a hobby I enjoyed. Sewing and Photography are/were my hobbies but have been turned into little business ventures. I told Alfred, “surely I can’t turn Scrapbooking/Project Life into a business right???”. Though, I will learn to keep that thought away, learning from past experiences. Oh and try avoid becoming a crazy scrapbooking lady with a room full of supplies.. because I simply don’t have the space for it!
I love Project Life because it is a simple and fun system to follow and most of all, I love being able to reflect on my own past times in the recent few weeks and now have the motivation to document what happens in the future. How ironic, as a wedding photographer I document people’s big moments and barely have time and motivation for my own. You will see in my spreads that most photos are ones taken from my instagram, which were taken with my iPhone 5s! There will be seldom shots from my X100s later.
I’ve only started 2 weeks ago, and playing the catch up game.. rather than starting on now and catch up on the side. Lets hope I can keep this up though!
Anyway, I’d like to share a few of my Project Life weekly spreads with you all and what I used ๐
I’ve fast become a fan of the Dear Lizzy range, so I have her 12×12″ binder and began with her core kit. I love watercoloured elements, so I find her style very fitting!
I’ve later added the Blush and 5th & Frolic editions to my core kit collection. One does not require more than one core kit per yearly album, but no one said you can’t have more??? #notguiltyย
I bought the Daydreamer edition (also Dear Lizzy)! in my first batch of Project Life goodies, then I found her other mini kit too.
WEEK ONE
I’m still trying to discover my style, so the spreads don’t mu but so long as each spread works well alone, I’m happy with that :). I love the monthly printable monthly calendars from Kaitlin Sheaffer though, so that’s the only consistent thing going on! Photos are printed with my PIXMA MG 6250, purely for convenience sake.
What I used: Dear Lizzy Edition core kit, Kaitlin Sheaffer monthly calendars, Basic Grey – Mint Julep designer chipboard stickers, printed chipboard shapes from Dear Lizzy, “Everyday” (#20), American Crafts precision pen #03, Becky Higgins date stamp, Becky Higgins corner rounder.
Personal touches: attempting to write with a brush & watercolour “week one”, clearly need more practice, typed out the wordings on photos using photoshop.
WEEK 2
Materials Used: Dear Lizzy edition core kit, Blush edition core kit, Basic Grey – Mint Julep die-cut cardstock & transparencies,ย Basic Grey – Mint Julep designer chipboard stickers, Dear Lizzy accent & phrase stickers, American Crafts precision pen #03 and #08, Becky Higgins date stamp, Becky Higgins corner rounder.
So who’s interested in giving Project Life a shot? ๐
Hope you like what you see so far, I have weeks 3 & 4 lined up.. currently finalising the weeks leading up to week 7! *wipes sweat* People are up to week 13 now, so I’ve got a little more to go ๐
I love the Dear Lizzy kits as well! You’re off to a great start. Can’t wait to see more!
I love your pages Clarissa. You would never know you are a newbie. These are wonderful.
