We ventured out to the East Village neighbourhood with one main purpose… to try out this super hyped up Pastrami sandwich from Katz Deli. We also eventually stumbled across one of Momofuku’s Milk bar branches for their infamous Cereal Milk soft serve. Oh and boy did it rain down hard on this day!
Sunny day, rainy day – still long queues. We waited for almost an hour before we were out of the rain.
Interesting ticketing/order system, everyone gets one of these which they have to present at the counter when the check out.
I won’t lie, the thickness of this thing was a little horrifying at first… how am I going to fit that in my mouth!? Then I figured out how… the meat was sooo tender your teeth will easily sink straight into it, no tugging necessary. We thought we’d be smart and order one to share (so we can eat more later) but in fact that was a dumb move at a place like this. We totally could’ve and should’ve had one all to ourselves (it’ll be worth stuffing ourselves later hah). Still dreaming of you Katz’ pastrami sandwich!
As its name suggests, cereal milk soft serve does taste like cereal milk and its the best kind of soft serve ever! with the extra crumbly bits make it that much more fun to eat…. especially when you’re sheltering from the rain and its like 5degrees outside.
It rained down pretty hard and we got so soaked trying to run from one Starbucks to another for shelter. So we didn’t get up to too much sightseeing (ok only saw one landmark – Washington Square) after this as we just went back to rest in our hotel room.
By the time the rain stopped, we were ready to eat again… and Halal guys is STILL on our minds so instead of finding a street stall we found an actual dine in branch just 2 stops away from our hotel. This, is our 2nd (of 3) serves of Halal guys from the whole trip. If I were to list 10 reasons why we should go back to New York, Halal Guys is definitely one of them 😛
