When we were in New York we checked out the Brooklyn Flea Markets, usually an outdoor event but moved indoors for winter into an old empty building with stalls spanning across 2 levels. This building reminded me a lot of something back in Sydney, Precinct 75 in St Peters and thought.. that would be a pretty cool place to have markets at too! Little did I know, they have started hosting markets there since last year. Not quiet like the Brooklyn Flea being indoors but there was a similar atmosphere.
At the St Peters Markets, you could walk around the premises to check out different stalls as well as the permanent shops there. I knew about Precinct 75 from doing some commercial work at a photo studio there, so it was interesting to see what other potentials this place has. Luckily we had no plans during Valentines Weekend, so thats what we did on that very hot Saturday morning.
The stalls sold second hand clothes, crafty arty things, jewellery, furniture, flowers/terrariums most I’ve not seen set up at other markets before. There were several food vendors/trucks there too like Happy as Larry (Pizza food truck), Pressed Juices, Tsuru food truck just to name a few. The permanent shops at Precinct 75 ranged from home decor, print makers, upcycled goods, board/card games store.. there was a hair salon too! Shops of all different types in different spaces from brightly lit warehouse to something that seemed like a hole in the wall.
It wasn’t buzzing probably because of the lack of promo. I believe their next market will take place this Saturday, 12th March. It looks like there is a different market hosted there too on Apr 2+3 called ‘The Market Tales’ (Facebook Event here). Hope to check that one out!
