I’ve been to Kitchen by Mike countless time, more often for lunch and this is probably the first time I lugged a camera along to take some proper shots. It was somewhat a special occasion after all. One of our friends were visiting from Townsville, and being Sunday (church commitments and all) we tried our best to catch each other over breakfast… so we had an early meet up. From memory it was about 7:30AM at Kitchen by Mike.
During the first hour of opening, we weren’t the only ones there. There was quite a crowd building up slowly. I’ve peeked at the breakfast menu during my lunch visits there and hardly found it appeal to me much. A lot of the options were the classic dishes, things on toast, muesli etc. Having breakfast out for me means, being able to have something I can’t easily cook at home… therefore I tend to opt for the more interesting menu items (the ones handwritten on the board).
I didn’t have too many to toss between, being an early morning… a Big Breakfast sounded pretty good with ingredients that didn’t sound too ordinary.
What I love about Kitchen by Mike is the canteen style approach at lunch. Usually you would find the day’s offerings behind these glass cases.
You will often find some nice drinks to chose from, served in a bottle.
Here it is, their take on the Big Breakfast. Who does not like coddled eggs? The one thing I have to say about this “Big breakfast” was it did not fill me up as well as an ordinary big breakfast would! Also it because it costed $20. The other is… it did not tempt me to go back and try more of their breakfast menu!
What made the morning extra special is of course being able to catch up with long time highschool friends (there’s a growing baby bump amongst us then). I will always go back to Kitchen By Mike at lunch time though, I love being curious about what they are serving up each day! Oh and also the fact that Koskela is in the same block! To sweeten future trips up even more….. Black Star Pastry, just around the corner!
